6th Grade EVENT 2: Black Ink "Squares Designs"
What the student is making:
Students will create a design of overlapping squares with black and white patterns inside them. They will create visual texture using a variety of lines and shapes. Repetition of different elements such as size, shape, frequency, direction and value create patterns. If a pattern is successful, a viewer should be able to determine what it might look like if it were continues past its borders.
Directions:
1. With the square template, trace squares filling the whole area. Squares may overlap, covering parts of other squares. Squares can be placed at odd angles to one mother. The squares should extend off the paper.
2. Fill in the visible parts of the square with a pattern. Some patterns may be similar but cannot be repeated exactly.
3. Fill in the designs with black marker.
4. Erase away all pencils marks.
5 Print your name NEATLY on the label and the adhere to the back of your artwork. **Double check the school name and your ID # .
6. Turn in your artwork and clean up!

There are areas of interest created through dark and light areas.
Although similar patterns may have been used, none of the patterns are exactly the same.
There are no stray pencil marks visible.

Fine and ultra fine black sharpies
9x12 white drawing paper
Masking tape
