6th Grade EVENT 1: Color Theory Painting "Fish Painting"
What the student is making:
Students will create an underwater scene including fish and sea life using only primary colors and black and white. They will have to mix these colors to make secondary colors as well as various shades and tints.
Directions:
1. Sketch out a design of an underwater scene. Include a variety of fish and sea life. Arrange objects on the page in an interesting composition.
2. Using primary colors (red, yellow, blue) to make secondary colors (orange, green, purple).
3. Create shades and tints by adding black and white.
4. Paint in your composition. Allow colors to dry before adding smaller details.
5. Print your name NEATLY on the label and the adhere to the back of your artwork. **Double check the school name and your ID # .
6. Turn in your artwork and clean up!
What the Judges are looking for:
Artwork must have a variety of fish and sea life in the composition.
Must have a variety of primary (red, yellow, blue) and secondary colors (orange, green, purple).
The student should have used shades (by adding black) and tints (by adding white).
The artwork is neat and well executed.

Various size brushes
Egg cartons for mixing colors
Water containers
12x18 white drawing paper
