6th Grade EVENT 1: Oil Pastels "Georgia O'Keeffe Style"
What the student is making:
Students will create an abstract composition similar to Georgia O'Keeffe's artwork by enlarging, simplifying, and distorting a flower using color schemes. The flower must extend off at least 3 sides of the paper.
Directions:
1. Use the "L" shapes as an adjustable viewfinder to find a section of a flower.
2. Focus on a section of a flower without showing too much of the edge.
3. Lightly sketch your design on a 12x18 colored construction paper.
4. Add rich, bright color and value with oil pastels.
5. Use complementary (colors across form each other on the color wheel, R/G, Y/P or B/O) and analogous (3 colors side by side on the color she'll and in the same family) color combinations. Make sure that you work the construction paper color into the artwork.
6. Print your name NEATLY on the label and the adhere to the back of your artwork. **Double check the school name and your ID # .
7. Turn in your artwork and clean up!

Complimentary - red/green, yellow/purple, blue/oranges
Analogous - orange-red orange-red; blue-blue green-green, etc.

The construction paper color was used as a part of the color scheme.
